From Sogen
Practicing three-breath zazen during the day is a wonderful way to pause and touch in with the wonder of being alive that is always available. Breathing in deeply with wordless awareness in the chest and belly. Breathing out with relaxation, letting go. Breathing in everything, the air, sounds, sights, smells. Breathing out everything, words, tensions, anxieties. Breathing in awake awareness of the flow of life energy always coming forth, Dogen’s “golden radiance” always coming forth. Breathing out separation. Three-breath zazen can be part of sitting practice also, supporting non-thinking. When there is awareness of thinking, gently shift to three-breath zazen, and keep going. When there is thinking again, shift to three-breath zazen again. Always available, always refreshing.
