From Jomon:
Come join us for a deep dive into the realms of Jizo Bodhisattva during our Bountiful Earth: A silent Jizo meditation and guided art retreat. American culture often emphasizes rugged individualism, independence, and self-reliance. Zen practice, too, can become shaped by this orientation toward self-power (jiriki) but during this retreat we offer another way, the path of other-power (tariki). By entering deeply into the archetype of Jizo Bodhisattva—Guardian of the Earth—we expand our sense of practice beyond meditation. Alongside Zazen, we will engage devotional forms that open the heart and imagination: invocation, contemplative art-making, and reverence for the Earth itself. Please join Mushin and me for this immersive exploration, as we express the generous, sustaining energies of the Earth. Together we will cultivate and embody the qualities of Jizo so deeply needed right now: benevolence, determination, optimism, fearlessness, and vow.
