Myriad drops of rain on the roof, a water glass hitting the floor, breeze riffling leaves on the katsura tree outside the zendo window, allthings speak with their own voice. Voices speaking dharma all around. And yet who hears them? In the up-coming sesshin we’ll be opening to the voices of animate and inanimate beings. Drenched in awareness that sesshin allows, we can actually hear the one hand in its native language. Letting go of labels, what then? A wash of hum, echo, thud, swish, crash, jingle, reverberation, vibration, crunch, tinkle, jangle, clank, splash, silence? Directly receiving the dharma voice everywhere, enjoy sound refreshment in all that serves and accompanies the human world. Our sense gates open and we no longer separate from this very life.
